Major Goals of the Youth Leaders Program:
- Provide service to the community
- Cultivate and practice leadership skills
- Explore career and post-high school goals
- Promote pro-social skills
- Encourage healthy decisions
- Encourage academic excellence
- Support students to become active leaders in their home, school, community and faith
- Nurture, build and support the following character traits:
Responsibility, Self-Respect, Integrity, Honesty, Reliability, Compassion for others,
Patience, Respect for others, Self-Determination, Dedication, Confidence,
Cooperation, Self-motivation, Persistence
We try to reach the above goals through the following methods:
High expectations, Group meetings, Individual assignments, Using an active curriculum,
Journal entries, Home assignments, Enriching activities, Field trips, Special presentations,
Service learning projects, Peer mentoring/leadership, Leadership opportunities, Self-reflection,
Active involvement
Active participation in the school, community, faith organizations and home along with community
service are cornerstone components of leadership. All participants are required to earn incentive
hours every month that highlights their participation and service. Please see information about the
Incentive Program, which details how and what students can do to earn incentive hours. In addition,
AVP sponsors several community service projects and field trips throughout the year in which the
students can participate.

Community Service: High school students are required to complete a minimum of 10 energy to
help the community in some way without receiving any compensation.
